Semi-Independent Living Skills (SILS) is a specialized service designed to help adults with developmental disabilities or related conditions live as independently as possible. At Bright Vision, our SILS program focuses on the high-level skills needed to manage a home and thrive in the community. Through patient instruction and ongoing support, we help you master everything from complex budgeting to social interaction. Our goal is to empower you to be the leader of your own life, providing the exact right amount of guidance to ensure your success in an independent setting.

Every plan for this service is personally reviewed and guided by a Registered Nurse.

Eligibility

Who Qualifies for
This Support?

In Minnesota, eligibility is often determined through a combination of your health needs and program-specific criteria.

  • Adults age 18 or older with a developmental disability or related condition.
  • Must be able to live in the community with less than 24-hour supervision.
  • Funded through the SILS program budget or specific county allocations.
  • Must have a goal of maintaining or increasing independent living skills.

Limitations & Boundaries

To provide the safest care, it’s important to understand the professional boundaries of this service:

Does not include direct hands-on personal care like bathing.
Cannot be provided to individuals receiving 24-hour waiver services like foster care.
Limited to instruction and training, not 'doing' for the person.
Available only to those meeting the specific SILS eligibility criteria.
